ASTITVA FOUNDATION

Astitva Foundation was founded in 2005 and is headed by Rehana Adib. Astitva organizes programmes primarily on the issues of women empowerment, domestic violence against women, issues concerning Dalits and Muslims. Presently, the organization is working in almost 250 villages of Vikaskhand, Charthawal, Baghara, Morna, Shahpur, Budhana and Saharanpur in Muzaffarnagar.


Programme overview:

•    Oxfam—Awareness programme focused on Domestic Violence and Child Marriage. This programme aimed to change the beliefs and values of people on the issues of domestic violence and child marriage. To achieve this, camps, programmes, and consultancies were organized at village, block, and district level, and the issues were talked and discussed in detail.

•    J. W. S Programme: This programme views to empower adolescents. Young girls are made aware of the negative impacts and dangers of marrying young. The focus of this programme is to make the young girls aware of the benefits of completing their mainstream education and aiming for high employment jobs.

•    Yeh Kahani Badalni Hai’ Programme: This programme focuses on to make the society and the public aware of the declining sex ratio and its consequences. Along with this, it focuses to make the people aware of the inequality, and its causes to the masses, and to make sure that discussions on this topic could continue to happen. With this, one person from each village is being prepared to work as a volunteer to work for the society.

•    P. W. L. D. Programme: This programme is based on the belief that, there should exist such democracy, which reflects what the citizens desire the most, and women should get equal importance and representation. For this, women are being made aware to be attentive what politicians are talking about, and what they offer. Also, the program urges women to voice out their wants and needs in front of these politicians.

•    I. D. H. R. Programme:The objective of this programme is to empower minority groups who have been subjected to caste-based discrimination. This program focuses on protection of the constitutional rights of minority groups and increasing their accessibility to the basic services. This entails monitoring of the implementation of laws and policies through community leadership and doing advocacy and capacity building among the groups. 

•    â€˜Mera Wajood, Meri Pehchaan’ Programme: Through this programme, the organization works towards safeguarding the rights of people from Muslim and Dalit community. This programme also entails working on inheritance and property rights of women and girls.

TARUN CHETNA

Established in 1993, Tarun Chetna is a right based, a participatory development organization working with women and children belonging to the marginalized communities in the eastern Uttar Pradesh. The organization was formed by a group of youths who were strongly influenced by the principles of Mahatma Gandhi, who believed in equality and social justice.


In recent years, the organization has expanded its work in four districts (Pratapgarh, Allahabad, Sultanpur & Jaunpur) of Uttar Pradesh in India. Pratapgarh has been identified as among 100 most backward and poorest district of India by the Planning Commission of India (NITI Aayog).


The organization has established models regarding livelihood, health, education and women empowerment, by which thousands of families are taking benefits from the interventions. The organization works for community health and empowerment and advancement of rural poor with an integrated rights-based approach, and give priority to women & children in the weaker sections of society.


Their programmatic interventions are especially focused on the holistic development of women, children & adolescent’s health, education, livelihood and their empowerment and improvements in the quality of life of deprived children, their families, and their communities to ensure their right, meet their basic needs and to increase their ability to participate in and benefit from their societies also. They sensitize, organize and empower the women from poorest communities in rural areas, and facilitate them for realizing their legal rights and entitlements and government’s health, education and poverty alleviation schemes. Few of their ongoing programmes and campaigns are EkSaath Campaign against women violence with CHSJ-New Delhi, WRB campaign for passing women reservation bill with CSR-New Delhi, Child Right promotion through CCRD by UNICEF and PHIA Foundation and Social inclusion project with  Oxfam India.


Tarun Chetna has won several national as well as international awards for their work. The member of Tarun Chetna Ms. Munni Begam received CII Foundation Woman Exemplar Awards 2018 to recognizing women across of India as an agent of social change. The organization is also a recipient of Tobacco Free India Grant Award 2018, eNGO CHALLENGE AWARD 2016 and 19th PoleStar award 2017.

Jahanara, one of WPC's governing body members, is associated with GKSSS in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. She has worked on legal awareness for rural women, upliftment of lower caste women and training of PRIs.

DISTRICT WOMEN'S COUNCIL, IDUKKI

The Idukki District Women's Council was established in 1976, a charitable Society registered under charitable societies Act for the welfare of poor and needy especially women and children.
The ldukki District Women's Council collected the membership fees, conducted tea stalls, benefit shows, etc., and the members themselves donated necessary fund, according to the needs and necessities.
The Dist. Head Quarters Idukki is situated in a remote and hilly area surrounded by the forest. There was no residential facility for the women employees here who are coming from various places of Kerala. So, The Idukki District Women's Council took up the endeavor to provide residential facilities, by starting a working women's hostel for women and crèche to look after their babies in rented building. After some time with the assistance of central government women and child Department it constructed a permanent building with capacity of 95 women. Later with the income received from the institution, it enhanced the facility for 150 women. The district women’s council has given employment to 32 people under various categories.
